Assemblage "Digging It"

I find the main character figures for my assemblage in some pretty unlikely places. The little star of this piece was part of an ensemble of cake topper figures I got from Fancy Flours, a site featuring the most delightful baking supplies ever. Someday I plan to go all Martha Stewart and try one of their chocolate transfer sheets with some sort of cake extravaganza.

Assemblage "Power Hungry"

Here's a guy who just can't get enough power. He is sucking up all the energy of the lightning storm that rages behind him and I'm sure he still wants more. I had the concept for this piece and I called on my sister and brother in law who have remodeled many a vintage house to see if they had any vintage electrical face plates, so I have to credit them for procuring the face plate for me.

The main character in this piece is a small bust of Tchaikovsky and a vintage appliance cord snakes from his head to the electrical outlet below him. I have used the graphic of a lightning storm behind him and text composed of small metal letters and alphabet letter stamps pressed into polymer clay. The whole piece resides in a vintage enamel pan. The piece measures 16" x 9 3/4" x 3 1/2", is signed and dated on the back and the price is $165. including packing and shipping costs.

Assemblage "Big Hearted"

Hopefully we all know some version of the main character in this assemblage.

Dolly girl had to be sawed in half in order to have her starring role, which I guess is appropriate given the difficult nature of selflessness. Her severed torso rests ontop of a very old block that I adhered the printed text to and the backdrop is a small metal plate and a diamond shaped fluted frame. I like how the silver metal heart that dangles beneath the doll is so large in realtionship to the doll. This piece measures 10 1/2" x 10 1/2" x 2 1/2" is signed and dated on the back and the price is $75. including packing and shipping.

Assemblage "Lucky Duck"

I've been nervously watching the weather all week, because I will participating in the Open Studios Spring Art Fair here in Boulder over the weekend. This is my first ever foray into showing at an outdoor art fair and the weather here in Colorado this time of year is WILDLY unpredictable. So I decided I need all the luck I can get.

Fortunately I have the perfect talisman. "Lucky Duck" started his life as a pepper shaker and he still has a painted "P" and holes on his back to prove it. He sits on a brass candle holder sconce and his "lucky" sign dangles from his beak. He measures 9 3/4" x 5 1/2" x 7" and is signed and dated on the back. The price is $75. including packing and shipping.

Assemblage "Bird Woman"

If there is anyone out there who is still following this blog then I wish to extend multitudes of thank yous to you for coming back after my prolonged absence. I still have a number of thorny tech issues to sort out after the death of my old computer and the "getting to know you" phase of learning about my new computer...but at some point I'm sure it will all be worked out. This whole experience was an unfortunate lesson about how dependent I've become on having a functioning computer. And I thought I wasn't an addictive personality!

And now for today's assemblage offering.

Playing the starring role in this assemblage is a figure that was made in the sixties by Marx from a series called "Campus Cuties" that depicted their version the perfect woman of the sixties. They are so "Mad Men" I can't stand it! In this piece the main figure has been refinished to have an aged look and she is sporting a bird hat that was the top from a vintage bird shaped Avon cologne bottle. The figure stands on a platform of a beautifully aged angle iron with chippy yellow paint. Underneath the platform dangles a wooden block with the printed text and the whole ensemble is set against a vintage metal floor grate. The piece measures 11 5/8" x 5 3/4" x 1 3/4" and is signed and dated on the back. The price including packing and shipping is $95.

Technical Difficulties

About a week ago my computer died and I have been languishing in the withdrawal mode all week. I have a new computer on order that I hope will be set up by week's end, but I wanted to explain my MIA status. I am making this post from the beautiful downtown Boulder Public Library, but I hope to be back to posting my art SOON!

Assemblage "Wild Rider"

This little guy decided to throw caution to the wind and ride with the wild things.

I refinished and aged the tiny rider figure and placed him on the head of gorilla figure that I refinished and aged as well. Rider and steed are sitting in a vintage metal loaf pan and the printed text mounted in the vintage tin mold is surrounded by rusted nails. This assemblage measures 9" x 5" x 4", is one of a kind, and is signed and dated on the back. The price including packing and shipping is $85.
